As Colorado continues to be a hotspot for Covid 19 cases, the Broncos UC Health Training Center has proven that it isn't shielded from breakthrough cases either. Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur is the latest member of the Broncos to test positive for Covid 19, thus the expectation is he will not be able to call plays on Sunday against the visiting Eagles.
Head Coach Vic Fangio said Friday that he isn't expecting Shurmur to be available at Empower Field at Mile High this weekend, "don't know yet for sure, but we gotta prepare as if he's not available."
Shurmur joins a handful of Broncos players who have been placed on the Reserve/Covid-19 list in recent days. Offensive Lineman Netane Muti missed 2 games, but has returned after a positive test, and Tight End Noah Fant missed the Cowboys game for the same reason. Quarterback Drew Lock has been out since the team landed in Dallas, but is expected to rejoin the team Monday. And, Offensive Lineman Austin Shlottman who was recently signed to the active 53-Man roster was placed on the Covid list on Thursday.
Fangio said the team has been taking precautions in recent weeks, even prior to uptick in positive cases, "we're spaced out, we've been doing that even before all this," he said. "We went into the indoor (Pat Bowlen Fieldhouse) and only the big rooms where everybody could be spaced out, we've already done that."
