PLEASE SUPPORT JEFF HURD IN CD-3 And that is not an endorsement, which we all know is the kiss of death from me, but a request that you elevate him to the general election in a primary where he was just joined by a political opportunist after Lauren Boebert left the race. Find out more about Jeff by clicking here and give him some money if you could.

IT'S A FREE FOR ALL FRIDAY Where you can ask anything or want to talk about anything. I'm also going to take calls today, woo-hoo!

THE NEW PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA GAVE AN INCREDIBLE SPEECH AT THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM And not only is it worth your time to listen for the 23 minutes it takes but this should be shared far and wide to every young person who labors under the illusion that socialism in any form is good. Watch this version that has been translated into English with his accent by AI.

THE SPEECH ABOVE EXPLAINS THE BUILDING PERMIT HOLD UPS That are reported in this story by CBS4. Permitting is a nightmare that adds up to $24,000 onto the cost of a project and the Denver City Auditor released a scorching review of how the department works, or more accurately, doesn't work for people trying to get a project done. From shoddy information to timelines that drag on and on, this is a pretty strong indictment of our permitting department at a time when government is allegedly trying to make housing more affordable. I am going to ask the Mayor about this next time.

DEMOCRATS TRYING TO MAKE HEALTH COVERAGE MORE EXPENSIVE The more things that are mandated by the government, the more expensive it becomes. That is simply fact. Now there is a push to make health insurance companies take EVERY primary care doctor into every network so people don't have to change Primary care doctors if they change jobs. The easiest way to avoid this is to join Pinnacle Advanced Primary Care or some other Direct Primary Care practice instead, I'm just saying. But that's not all. The Legislature is considering bills that would require insurance carriers to cover very expensive weight loss drugs, require them to cover expensive fertility treatments, and change pharmacy requirements for people with expensive chronic illnesses. These will all raise the cost of health insurance. But the Democrats just don't care.

THIS IS A HORRIBLE STORY OUT OF OURAY And yes, the girl could be lying, but her account of what happened is horrifying especially because it happened at the Police Chief's house while he was there asleep. Read the story of an alleged sexual assault here, but it is very graphic and horrifying. I'm guessing the rape exam holds evidence of what happened and we'll see what happens at trial. The fact a third guy sat there and watched and never intervened is horrifying to me. What a coward.

DEMOCRATS WASTED $54,000 IN TAXPAYER DOLLARS TO DEFEND THEIR ILLEGAL VOTING SYSTEM And I think every Democratic lawmaker should be forced to pony up for the legal fees. Of course that won't happen but they should. Read it here.

RAW MILK MAY BE LEGAL AGAIN This is encouraging, that the Democratic Legislature would consider more freedom for anything. In this case, it's the ability for farmers to sell raw milk directly to consumers who want it. Read about what this might look like here.

CALDARA IS HOPEFULLY COLORADO CAN BE SAVED And this column does a great job of sharing some bright light in the dim future, but it won't come from the Republican party.

SPEAKER JOHNSON IS HOLDING FIRM ON BORDER SECURITY President Biden really, really wants to send more money to Ukraine. Speaker Mike Johnson is tying that aid tightly to sweeping border security measures and he's not backing down. This is an interesting strategy because polling says more and more Americans want security at the border, while fewer and fewer care about helping Ukraine. I mean, we WANT to help, but the border issue is far larger than the Ukraine issue and far more personal to Americans. Read about the negotiations but I think Johnson has the winning hand here. We'll see if he sticks to his guns.

THE CHEVRON DOCTRINE MAY BE ON THE WAY OUT And this is good riddance to a court ruling the emboldened the bureaucratic state bigly. The Chevron doctrine came about 40ish years ago when the Supreme Court ruled that courts shold defer to an agency's reasonable interpretation of an ambiguous statute. This has been abused by various government agencies to create burdens for business and citizens that they should not have to bear. In recent arguments in a case brought by fishing boats who have been burdened with the cost of having government observers onboard, the Court seems to be leaning towards jettisoning the doctrine. The fact that the Biden Admin seems to argue that the only reason to keep it is because it's already a thing bodes well.

GOOD JOB, REP. YADIRA CARAVEO! It's not often I praise the left wing Congresswoman from Northern Colorado but she bucked her party and voted to condemn the border policies of the current president. Read about it here but give her credit for this one although this was a non binding measure that really doesn't mean anything. Now we'll see how she votes when it comes to voting on real measures of border security, as she voted NO on HR. 2 which would actually provide real border security.

WE HIT THE HOUTHIS AGAIN This time pre emptively taking out missiles that were going to be used to attack ships in the Red Sea. This didn't take out much of the Houthis abilities to fire at passing ships though and now we have to decide whether to aggressively go after more and risk expanding the war or letting them continue to create havoc. I'm sure Biden will choose poorly.

OUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE MIDDLE EAST IS ABOUT MORE THAN OIL And this story about how critical these shipping lanes are does a good job explaining why we may never be able to free of the region. This article does a nice job giving the backstory on how more than one Administration has screwed up by not dealing with the Houthis more effectively.

THIS AS IRAN IS FIRING MISSILES AT EREBODY In the past few weeks, Iran has fired missiles at Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria. Why? It's all theater to give the hardliners in Iran something to feel good about. From the New York Times:

Iran’s show of strength was meant to reassure conservatives domestically and militant allies abroad, and to warn Israel, the United States and terrorist groups that Iran will strike back if attacked, according to two Iranians affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards who were familiar with the planning, and who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security matters. Supporters of Iran’s authoritarian clerical regime have been incensed by recent attacks on Iran that made it appear vulnerable, demanding a powerful response.
Yet for all the missiles launched and all the belligerent words, Iran once again appeared to stop short of a major escalation that might further inflame an intensifying regional conflict centered on the war between an Iranian-backed armed group, Hamas, and Iran’s regional archenemy, Israel. Analysts say Iran wanted the attacks to be measured, flexing its muscles without getting into a direct fight with Israel, the United States or their allies.

Of special note here is that they essentially bombed three countries they have good relationships with. This means they won't be struck back, especially as they struck places where rebels against the current governments are known to be, thus doing the dirty work for them. This hardly smacks of "taking over the world" energy to me.

JORDAN PETERSON THINKS TRUMP CAN WIN And this is a very interesting conversation about the possibility of another Trump Presidency.

BOOMERS, IT'S TIME TO DOWNSIZE Because there are far too many two person households living in big homes that Millennials need for their growing families. I realize interest rates and all that, but chances are you can downsize without taking on a new mortgage if you own your home outright because of the huge amount of equity. This article lays out how out of whack things are.

A NINTH YEAR OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL ELIGIBILITY? That is what a tight end at Miami is asking for and it's being ridiculed of course. He's going to be the first 40 year old college player at this rate. Some of the comments in that story are hilarious.
