1/22/24 RIP Larry Zimmer, Plus Is Global Warming Just The Sun?

A LEGEND HAS PASSED Larry Zimmer was a sports legend in this town, not for his on field antics, but for his work in the broadcast booth.  He was the voice of the CU Buffaloes for 42 seasons and part of Denver Broncos broadcasts for 26 seasons. He worked at KOA from 1971 – 2004 when he retired from his role as sports director.  He passed away Saturday night at 88 and we will remember him today with Mark Johnson. He pre dated me here so I never got to meet the man but so many of my coworkers speak so highly of him. Read about Larry's incredible life here.

WHAT IF IT'S JUST THE SUN? Diana Furchgott-Roth joins me from the Heritage Foundation to talk about the work of her colleague Dr. Willie Soon. He's working to expose the issues with the "consensus" and offering other reasons for the warming that we are seeing. Watch him below to understand the problems with the data being used to justify a complete remake of our economy.

ARE YOU READY FOR A 25% INCREASE IN YOUR PROPERTY TAX BILL? The Common Sense Institute says that's what we can expect after Democrats convinced voters to get rid of the Gallagher amendment and then not doing anything substantial to stop these increases in a special session that we got to pay for too. You can read about it there, and if there were a functioning GOP this would be a great year for Republicans to pick up seats in the Legislature but the Chairman will be busy with his own campaign instead. This is going to further increase the cost of housing here. Democrats own every single part of this tax increase so make sure you direct your ire at the right people.

RON DESANTIS IS OUT And I think this drop out speech is very, very good if you look at it politically. A lot of people who didn't like DeSantis are mad he endorsed Trump, but by saying he was honoring his promise to support the GOP nominee he has an out. Watch his speech here.

Aside from the fact that there is a lot of confusion about who said the quote in his header, this was a good speech bowing out. Not whiny, not complaining, but straightforward "we can't win" so he doesn't want to waste any more time or money. A lot of people are already writing post mortems on this campaign but I'm interested to hear his in a year. What did he learn and is it enough for a comeback in the future? I still think he is the most intelligent candidate in the race. Was.

CORRUPT MAN FLEECES CHRISTIANS And this story says he is a pastor, but does one need an actual congregation to be a pastor? Because I see no congregation listed on his Twitter feed he used to sell a worthless crypto coin with. I think that is an important distinction because stories like this are often used to demonize the profession of pastor and I think that matters. In any case, if you bought any of this guy's INDXcoin you probably lost your money.

JON CALDARA DIGS INTO THAT SWEETHEART DEAL FOR THE SPOUSE OF A CONGRESSWOMAN By laying out what, exactly, Ian Silverii is going to make $180,000 of taxpayer dollars to do. He was hired to convince voters to let Jefferson County keep more of their money, something voters there have rejected TWICE now. Read it here.

AURORA CONSIDERS BUYING A HOTEL FOR A HOMELESS NAVIGATION CENTER And unlike Denver, which is just housing homeless people in the hotels they are buying up, this would be used as a center to help homeless people move into the services, jobs and help they need to get back on their feet independently. That has been the plan all along, but the plan was to build a center first. Now it seems this is being considered as a faster way to get this done. I hope this works and helps homeless people get their lives back.

EVERY BUSINESS OWNER HAS A NEW FEDERAL LAW TO CONTEND WITH And the fines are steep if you don't register with the US Treasury's new anti-money laundering site. Read about it here.

LAUREN BOEBERT WON'T WALK INTO THE 4TH CD DISTRICT According to this story from Fox 31. In it, they spoke to voters in the district about her carpetbagging and whether or not they will support her. Read it here.

PRO HAMAS PROTESTERS SHUT DOWN SUNDANCE And again, do you think they persuaded anyone in Park City, Utah to join their cause by disrupting an event that has no power to demand a ceasefire? These people don't actually care about Palestinian deaths, they only care about collectively flexing their muscles on people they deem to be more powerful than they are. And for the record, they are.

ELON MUSK VISITS AUSCHWITZ As he is continuing to publicly educate himself after accusations (deserved) of anti-Semitism on his X platform. He also attended a conference in Poland about the subject. I have to give him credit for seeming to learn from his mistakes and working to educate himself about this. I may renew my blue checkmark after all. I think this has been a really good mea culpa by Musk and it feels sincere.

DID JOHN FETTERMAN GET RED PILLED? The often slovenly looking Senator from Pennsylvania has once again broken from his party to declare that the border crisis is threatening to destroy the American Dream. What? This is like five times in two months I've found myself agreeing with this dude. He's not wrong when he says he doesn't understand why wanting a secure border is controversial.

TRUMP'S FORMER LAWYER SAYS HE COULD LOSE He didn't say it that explicitly but he did say this:

"The two federal cases are serious cases. I think they are not to be taken lightly. Let's put it that way," Tacopina said, before the host Al Sharpton asked him if a conviction is possible. "Is it possible? Absolutely," Tacopina said. "You have a jury of 12 who is ultimately going to decide this. Jack Smith is a federal prosecutor who I knew from his days in Brooklyn. That's a serious prosecutor. These are federal cases, and you have a jury."

And the GOP is about to make him the nominee while a bunch of GOP voters say they won't vote for him if he's convicted. This is not going to end well I fear. The fact that his former attorney, who just left his team, decided to be interviewed by his longtime friend Al Sharpton tells me a lot about this guy though. Take it as you will.

WHY LEFTIST JEWS ARE AS THEY ARE This is a great column by David Strom about why Jews lean left and why they continue to support people who wish nothing more than their destruction. It's got as good an explanation as I've seen anywhere. Read it here. Coincidentally Karol Markowitz did a column on the same thing today, though from another angle. We'll dive into both today.

WASH PARK IS GETTING A NEW STEAKHOUSE And you can read about it here and you should if you want to understand how the restaurant business works. This is the fourth concept in the same space by the same chef. He keeps throwing stuff against the wall until something sticks. This steakhouse looks like a winner to me.

A COMPANY IS DEVELOPING PRESCRIPTION PSILOCYBIN This Littleton company is working towards a day when people with anxiety can get a prescription for micro doses of psilocybin to manage their anxiety. Read it here.

WE THINK THE WORLD IS BECOMING LESS ETHICAL Or at least every single profession according to a recent survey. Nurses are still considered to be the most ethical profession, though even they slipped a bit. The least ethical?

Five professions hit their record-low ratings, since Gallup started surveying the ethics of various professions in 1976: pharmacists (55 percent), clergy (32 percent), journalists (19 percent), senators (8 percent) and members of Congress (6 percent).

Watch journalists lose their minds instead of asking why they are viewed this way. The clergy one is a huge problem. HUGE.
