1/24/24 Blog: Trump Wins New Hampshire, Plus Some Comedy

TRUMP WINS NEW HAMPSHIRE And took the time in his victory speech to go after Nikki Haley instead of just taking the W. Nikki Haley vowed to stay in the race, but I have no clue why. The only thing I can think is that her big money backers are assuming SOMETHING will happen to Trump that will allow her to somehow pull this thing out. She gave a concession speech that started with "God is good, what a great night" and I began to worry about HER sanity. This column says it is almost morning in America because Trump is going to be the nominee and makes some good strides to show why people support Trump. This bit stuck out to me:

My late husband, Foster, often said, “My success in building a billion-dollar business came from harnessing people’s strengths and ignoring their weaknesses.” President Trump is far from perfect (aren’t we all), but tens of millions of Americans feel that nobody is listening to them except Donald Trump. Where conventional politicians left broken promises, President Trump delivered.

I think that says it all. People are willing to overlook a lot when someone listens to them.

WEATHER WEDNESDAY IS AT 12:30 So get your weather questions ready for our favorite meteorologist Fox 31s Dave Fraser.

STEVE RANNAZZISI EATS CHICKEN OUT OF A BAG And then does comedy about it. He's been in a bunch of movies and shows, not the least of which are FX's The League and Paul Bart: Mall Cop. He's also performing at Comedy Works this weekend and he joins me at 1 to chat about all things comedy and more. Buy tickets here, but the early Saturday night show is already sold out so do it today. He is NOT Dry Bar Comedy approved (this is my new warning label to let you know he curses and whatnot) but extremely funny.

NOW WE KNOW WHY THE SHIFT ON IMMIGRATION FROM DEMS I said yesterday the polling must be horrific for Dems on immigration and lo and behold we have some new polling data. From the new HarvardCaps/Harris poll:

Immigration is now the top concern for voters, up 7 points since last month to 35% (with inflation at second, 32%).
77% of voters believe the Biden administration should make a deal with the Republicans to increase border security – including 65% of Democrats.
68% believe the Biden administration should make it tougher to get into the U.S. illegally – including 50% of Democrats.

This is what happens when illegal immigrants come home to roost in Democrat cities. Read the rest here. The poll also says that a January 6th conviction of Donald Trump could very well swing the election.

MIKE LYNCH'S PROBLEMS ARE NOT GOING AWAY And today the Denver Post has an editorial expressing their discontent with how he handled his arrest and subsequent handling of his September 2022 DUI arrest. We should have already been done with this part of the DUI arrest but now it's going to drag down any chance of him winning in CD-4. I hope he would drop out to give another candidate the chance to beat Lauren Boebert but we'll see if his ego allows that.

CONGRATS TO HALL OF FAMER TODD HELTON! He FINALLY made it and Woody Paige has a great column about him here.

BILL MAHER ASKS FOR SANITY IN 2024 I had a story about this earlier in the week but it's so good that everyone should watch it. There is some bad language.

A FRESHMAN DENVER CITY COUNCIL MEMBER MAY HAVE ABUSED HER OFFICE When it comes to spending. She is being investigated by the ethics committee. Read it here, but this seems to me to be a case (if it is as it seems) of someone who assumes that all politicians abuse their position so she merely does the same. It doesn't look good for her and the people around her, though apparently ALL of her aides have resigned since she took office because of her shady behavior. Good for them.

ARE THERE NO AMERICANS WHO WOULD NEED THESE GOVERNMENT JOBS? The City of Denver is trying to find ways to allow illegal immigrants to work without official work authorization. They are looking at a loophole that says illegal immigrants can't work for PRIVATE companies, but there isn't a prohibition on them working for government. Think about that for a second. Talk about two tiers of justice. From the Denver Gazette:

In that case, Denver is exploring whether the city can employ immigrants to give them jobs and a way to earn money, since the federal work laws likely don't apply to state and local governments. The mayor's spokesperson said it comes with a "significant level of risk," since the legal theory has never been tested.
"Taking a look at that law from 1986 makes clear that the law does not actually say anything about applying to state or local governments," said César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández, an Ohio State University College of Law professor based in Denver.
This is all a last-ditch option, but it’s something the city is already exploring. The mayor’s office told 9NEWS they are well aware that if Donald Trump wins the election in November everything could change when it comes to immigration. There are fears that if the city of Denver hires immigrants to allow them to work, the federal government, especially under Trump if he wins, could come in and criminally charge everyone from the city who is employing immigrants.

At least they are concerned they will be treated like the average American business owner and they should be.

IT'S TIME TO GO NUCLEAR And I don't mean that metaphorically. There is a bill in the Legislature that would classify nuclear as a "green energy" source, which would allow and encourage development of nuclear energy sources in Colorado. If we want to reduce emissions in an efficient and reliable way, nuclear MUST be part of the equation. Read an editorial about it here.

THE GOVERNOR TALKS OUT OF BOTH SIDES OF HIS MOUTH ON INCOME TAX RATES The Independence Institute has done a report showing exactly how to get our income tax rate even lower, down to 3.25%. They sent the report to the Governor, who SAYS he wants to get rid of the income tax, but then his office sends out this reply?

In a statement, the governor's office said it has yet to read or fact-check this report.
"But the governor welcomes any information that helps achieve his goal of cutting the income tax rate without reducing funding for schools or other key services by one dime," a spokesperson said. "Gov. Polis supports income tax cuts to prevent the over collection of taxes that leads to a TABOR surplus, and he also supports eliminating corporate giveaway tax expenditures to further reduce the income and sales tax rates.”

Someone has already done the heavy lifting on how to make this a reality and he can't be bothered to even READ it yet? He loves to talk about reducing the income tax but he's too busy plotting his run for President to actually do anything about it. Maybe he read the first page of the report, which you can read here, which lays out the many ways our Governor has not only failed to move the needle on this, but actually made the situation worse along with his party.

CALLING OUT GOVERNMENT CHEERLEADERS IN THE MEDIA Ari Armstrong does just that in this column where he clearly shows significant bias in two different stories from the Denver Post and the Colorado Sun. If he really wanted to I'm sure he could do a version of this every day. This is part of the reason no one trusts journalists anymore.

THE POPE IS WRONG The Pope used Holocaust Remembrance Day to state that "war can never be justified" and only benefits arms makers. I'm sorry, but war saved the rest of the Jews from extermination. If he wants to say that trying to murder millions of people because of their faith is never justified, I have his back. But saying that war is never justified when it took war to end slavery in the United States is just wrong. It's not ideal, it shouldn't be the first option, but sometimes it's the only thing that gets the attention of those engaging in evil behavior.

AMERICANS ARE FEELING BETTER ABOUT THE ECONOMY As wages rise and inflation stabilizes people are feeling better about their own personal economy. That being said, persistently high prices may drag that down. Read more here.

WHAT'S A FEW MISSING BOLTS ON A AIRCRAFT WING ANYWAY? A passenger alerted flight crew that there seemed to be some missing bolts holding the wing onto the aircraft. The bolts were eventually replaced but the passengers were all rebooked onto other flights. For the record, I don't think four missing bolts is a good idea but we're all on edge about flying these days, aren't we?

IF YOU'RE ON THE SCHOOL BOARD, YOU PROBABLY DON'T NEED TO DO THIS This is why people are freaking out about people like this school board member having access to their kids. Libs of Tik Tok has outed another one. Prepare for serious sexual content.

THERE'S AN ELECTION DENIER IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!! Isn't that how we're supposed to take this from our President?

WHEN SOMEONE OLD AS HELL TRIES TO DUNK ON OTHER OLDIES Oh Nancy. She declined to talk about Trump's "cognitive decline" but then mixes up Trump and Joe Biden. It's almost like it's scripted.

GODZILLA MINUS ONE IS A DAVID VS GOLIATH STORY FOR SURE But Godzilla is David in this instance, as the Japanese film has been nominated for Best Visual Effects against some real Hollywood heavyweights. CHARLES PAYNE UNLOADS ON BIDEN IN DEFENSE OF TRUMP VOTERS

NETFLIX BUYS WWE RAW The streaming giant has bought the rights to a show that has proven to be so enduring for so long this seems like a slam dunk. Streaming services are trying to get more and more live programming to be exclusive to them, and this seems like a slam dunk for Netflix. Netflix has seen a huge increase in customers as of late and I think this is a direct result of the the crackdown on password sharing.
