2/22/24 Blog: A Better Helmet, And Are the He Gets Us Ads Good or Bad?

COULD WE MAKE FOOTBALL SAFER? And not just football, but any sport that uses a helmet? That is the hope of CU Doctoral Candidate Lawrence Smith, who has been working to do just that. He and his colleagues have invented a new kind of foam that absorbs a LOT more impact than traditional foam and I'm talking to Lawrence about it today at 1. Read more about it and see photos here.

I DIDN'T LOVE THE HE GETS US SUPER BOWL AD And I've really liked some of them in the past. The ad in question is this:

My guest Tyler Cochran says this watered down version of the gospel is not helpful and simply reinforces the narcissism in our society. I talk to him today at 2:30 about it.

AROD IS LAUNCHING AN AWESOME NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL CALLED THE TOP TEN TOUR with his lovely bride and their first video drops this Sunday! Be sure to subscribe before then right here or click the cool graphic below.

IT'S A FREE FOR ALL...THURSDAY? Yes, because my show gets clipped by Spring Training baseball tomorrow and the first hour is Mayor Mike Johnston for half an hour and then hopefully Nikki Haley.

THE BORDER PATROL CALLS OUT MIKE JOHNSTON And oh boy, this is a doozy. Check this out.

Are they wrong though? I meant to talk about this story yesterday but will certainly today.

NIKKI HALEY WILL BE IN TOWN NEXT WEEK And you can join her for a campaign stop at Wings Over the Rockies. I'm trying to get her on the show before I go on vacation.

JON CALDARA SHARES SOME OF THE DUMBEST BILLS OF THE LEGISLATURE THIS YEAR And I realize that is a PRETTY high bar, but he finds three that are insane. Read it here.

CSU DOESN'T DO FREE SPEECH And this editorial calls them out for silencing a pro-life speaker by not approving a lousy $600 request to the so-called "Diversity Grant Committee" which funds such things. Apparently the people on that committee don't understand what "diversity" means or they just don't care. Read it here. If you are a CSU Alumni who donates to the school, I'd sure love you to call the school and let them know your money has dried up until they truly support free speech. Just a thought.

ARE WE LESS STRESSED BECAUSE WE AREN'T FAT? This study shows a connection between states with high obesity and high stress and Colorado doesn't have much of either. I could argue that living an obese life IS stressful inherently, as doing anything while very overweight is just harder. We shall discuss this today.

WHAT BENEFITS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS GET WHEN THEY COME HERE? OMG this infuriated me today. Watch below or click here.

THAT DUMBASS MOTORCYCLIST IS IN A COLORADO JAIL Or maybe he's already posted the $1000 bond to get out, but he's going to have to face charges here for filming himself going from Garden of the Gods in the Springs to Downtown Denver in 20 minutes. Dumbass.

THE FOUR DAY WORKWEEK WORKS And after the world's biggest trial many of the companies that participated in the trial are sticking with the four day workweek. Like 89% of them. There were differences in how successful the program was but they seem to be based on whether or not a company simply committed to the four day work week or made it conditional on meeting deadlines or other such measures. The latter companies did not have the same success. Overall, the four day workweek increased staff happiness, retention, and gave companies a boost in recruiting. We need to do one here.

HOW DO YOU STOP TAKING WEIGHT LOSS DRUGS? Like Wegovy? The answer is you probably can't and not regain the weight. As someone who has dealt with yo-yo weight changes in the past I know how demoralizing regaining weight can be. Try SOTA Weight Loss before you try this, I'm begging you.

AN ENTERTAINING TAKE ON THE NEWS I kind of love this guy.

GOOGLE HALTS ITS SUPER WOKE IMAGE GENERATOR This was mentioned in the above video but it's so funny I wanted more. When asked to create images from history Google's Gemini program only seems able to create images of minorities that are completely historically inaccurate. Now Google has hit pause, saying “We’re already working to address recent issues with Gemini’s image generation feature. While we do this, we’re going to pause the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon.” From the NYPost:

Examples included an AI image of a black man who appeared to represent George Washington, complete with a white powdered wig and Continental Army uniform, and a Southeast Asian woman dressed in papal attire even though all 266 popes throughout history have been white men.

This is the funniest thing I've seen all month.

THE ANN COULTER SHOOTER THEORY IS 100% CORRECT Did you see Ann Coulter stun Bill Maher's audience into silence when she dropped this bit of information?

And now the Kansas City Star is explaining away its decision to not show a mug shot of one of the black male shooters from the parade until Wednesday with this bit of nonsense in the form of an editor's note:

The Star is for the first time publishing a booking photo for Lyndell Mays, who was taken to the Jackson County Detention Center Tuesday night after being treated at a hospital. The Star had held off until Wednesday to understand why a booking photo of Dominic M. Miller was not available. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday morning that Miller is still at the hospital and had not yet been photographed. In addition, we took the time to carefully consider whether to use booking mugs in the absence of other images of the adult suspects; The Star policy is to use booking mugs only in the highest profile of crimes.

I'm sorry, what? They only use mug shots in the "highest profile of crimes" and this gave them pause before releasing THIS mug shot? Does it get any more high profile? I understand the feeling that you need to protect good and honest black people from being lumped into a category with black criminals, but it's WRONG. If black people commit crimes they should face the same scrutiny that white people who commit crimes are given. We have got to stop sugar coating criminal behavior no matter who does it.

ENVIRONMENTALIST GROUPS USE SUE AND SETTLE TO GET THEIR WAY This is insidious and the taxpayers are clueless to the strategy that is setting environmental policy without a single vote. Real Clear Investigations exposes the "sue and settle" strategy that has led to the removal of millions of acres of land for oil and gas exploration here. At least in Colorado we will know which lawmakers killed 11% of our economy and made gas more expensive in the process when they finally do it so we can vote them out.

JAMES BIDEN HAS MEMORY ISSUES TOO Because while testifying behind closed doors he was forced to change his story about a Chinese dea he did with Hunter after being shown a contract with his own signature on it. He says he doesn't remember signing the contract. How convenient. He also says he "threw out" a diamond that Hunter had given him to have appraised, as one does.

STEVE DOOCY ASKS WHAT WE'RE ALL THINKING

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE STOCK MARKET UNDER BIDEN Our friend Steve Moore breaks down why it's an illusion to believe that the stock market is cooking when you factor in inflation and this column is very illuminating.

REPUBLICANS GETS A BIG DONATION FROM...THE TEAMSTERS? This is not as surprising as one may think. The Teamsters made a $45,000 commitment to the RNC's convention fund, and even though the check hasn't cleared yet this has to be setting off alarm bells in the Democratic party, who have long relied on union money to fund their campaigns. This is the first donation to Republicans since 2004 from a group that has supported every Democrat since Al Gore.

TWO MINUTE DRILL!

AN APP TO STOP FOOD WASTE IS HERE I love this concept, as it allows restaurants to make SOMETHING on food that is nearing its expiration date instead of just throwing it out, plus it allows people to get deals on food that would otherwise go to waste. The app is Too Good To Go and you can download it in Denver and Boulder today to start getting great deals on leftover food.

RESTAURANT WEEK IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER And it is a great way to try new restaurants without breaking the bank, as they have special menus for Restaurant Week with special pricing. It starts March 1st and goes a little longer than a week and you can see some of the menus and make reservations (highly recommend reservations) by clicking here.

NEED MONEY FOR COLLEGE? TRY CORNHOLE I did not see this coming. Two Colorado teens have made history by getting the first college scholarship for playing cornhole. They will be taking their mad skills to Winthrop University in South Carolina next fall. I imagine their parents are thrilled and a bit confused.

LAWYER IS SANCTIONED FOR THREATENING NAKED RAMPAGING LAWYER AT A PHISH CONCERT I can't tell you how much I enjoyed writing that headline because I didn't want to leave any part of this story out.

KFC BRINGS THE CHIZZA TO THE US And I know you've been drooling waiting for this pizza on a chicken creating to make it here. I'm not going to lie, this seems like a chicken parm and I'd probably like it. That being said, I don't want to clog my arteries completely with one meal so I may pass.

BIG BRANDS ARE FINALLY REALIZING WE'RE DONE WITH HIGH PRICES And it's about time. This story about declining sales for big brands that have raised their prices to stupid levels gives me hope. Now the brands are all paying attention, and many are committing to better "affordability". The problem for them is it's hard to win back customers who have found a suitable replacement. This is a perfect example of how market forces work.

HACKING IS BIG BUSINESS IN CHINA And some of the best customers are Chinese governmental organizations. There is nothing shocking in this, China has been stealing stuff from other people for 70 years now. They are just getting better at it.
