4/16/24 Blog: An MJ Actor, A Convention of States, And Real Estate Stuff

YOU MUST SEE MJ AT THE DCPA It is a rousing musical about a moment in time when Michael Jackson was planning the Dangerous tour and it is SO GOOD. I've got actor J. Daughtry, who plays Berry Gordy and Nick on the show today at 12:30 to chat about it, buy your tickets here.

IS A CONVENTION OF STATES THE ANSWER? A Convention of States can be called when there is a need to make some changes to the Constitution by the people. An Article V Convention as it's called has never happened in the US and many people don't know that The People can demand changes that Congress will not make. The largest push for an Article V convention has been pushed forward by a group that wants a convention to address the following:

calling of a convention of the states limited to proposing amendments to the Constitution of the United States that impose fi scal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of o ce for its o cials and for members of Congress.

Seems simple enough and we know Congress will never impose those limits on themselves. Find out about them here and join the rally to get this passed in Colorado on the West Steps of the Capitol on April 25th. Mark Meckler, President and Co-Founder of COS Action joins me today at 1 for a chat. This is a good deep dive into the subject by the Heritage Foundation.

WHAT DOES THE RULING ON REAL ESTATE COMMISSIONS MEAN FOR YOU? I've got realtor Ed Prather today on the show to talk about this recent ruling where the National Association of Realtors agreed to pay $418 million to settle antitrust lawsuits around real estate commissions. There has been a lot of talk about what this means when you buy or sell your home so I thought I'd bring Ed on to discuss what that will look like in practice. He's on at 2:30.

TOUGH LOVE COMES TO AURORA WHEN IT HOMELESSNESS And I'm here for all of this. Mayor Mike Coffman and the City Council has some big ideas. From the Denver Gazette:

The approach includes two new proposals from Coffman, Councilmember Steve Sundberg and Councilmember Curtis Gardner, which will be heard at the council's study session on April 22.
The first of the two proposals would "put the entire I-225 corridor under a new trespass ordinance," in which individuals would be ticketed and given a date to appear in court, Coffman said. The second measure would create a new specialized court to deal with low-level offenses by homeless people, such as violating the trespass ordinance, illegal drug possession or retail theft. The twin proposals, if enacted, would further affirm Aurora's preferred approach to curbing its homelessness crisis — by giving individuals the opportunity to accept services, including treatment, on the one hand, and by adopting, on the other hand, a policy akin to zero tolerance for homeless people who refuse help.

We are about to see which plan is more effective at curbing homelessness as this is pretty much the opposite of what Denver is doing. The Mayor says he hopes to have the system operational by this summer for at least the 225 corridor and the way it's written would allow them to expand it to other areas as needed.

DENVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS SUPER CRAPS ON THE PUBLIC By forcing employees to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement when they leave to get any settlement being offered by the district. How is this a thing? Superintendent Alex Merrero has made it his policy apparently and in a publicly funded school district this is NOT okay. Read more here but something needs to be done by the school board TODAY about this practice.

DOUGCO AND EL PASO COUNTY ARE SUING TO END SANCTUARY STATUS And I'm so happy both are doing this. Colorado passed a series of laws that prevent law enforcement from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in any meaningful way. Now two counties are suing to end the laws they say are in conflict with federal laws. They want it known that they have no intention of spending millions like Denver is on illegal immigrants. Good for them.

PIMPING AIN'T EASY FOR JURORS This is kind of funny in a way but goes to show how ingenious defense attorneys can be. A man who was convicted of sex trafficking because he was trying to lure a fake teenager into becoming a prostitute for him wanted a new trial. Why? Read this:

"Mr. Robinson does not have a right to a jury composed of persons with a certain understanding of a word, such as 'pimp,'" Brimmer wrote. "The Court finds that Mr. Robinson has not shown prejudice by any failure of his attorney to ensure that the members of the jury were aware of different uses of the term 'pimp' or 'pimping' in Black culture because Mr. Robinson repeatedly agreed with the traditional definition of what that term meant."

He wanted a jury full of black folks who knew he was just kidding when he said he wanted to pimp the girl. Mmmkay.

THE COST OF SPEAKING OUT IS SUSPENSION If you didn't read the column written in The Free Press about NPR and it's liberal bias you can read it here (if you subscribe, which you should). Now NPR has responded in the most liberal way by suspending him for five days. This as many on the right are unearthing the INSANE comments on Twitter of it's new hard left CEO Katherine Maher. This would indicate that NPR has no interest in trying to be fair and balanced, but is merely circling the wagons and letting anyone else on the team know they are on notice too.

THE NEW BIG BROTHER KILL SWITCH IS IN PLACE ON NEW CARS Watch this!

CBS SHOWS ITS METTLE WITH JOHN KIRBY ABOUT ISRAEL Whereas ABC and NBC not so much. You can read the difference here but good for CBS for this line:

Nobody wants a war in that region, not at all, but let’s take up this question of what a win is. You’ve described the Middle East there, Israel’s neighborhood, as a tough one. Deterrence matters, hitting back does. If a bully takes 350 odd swings at you and you duck, how is that a win?

Exactly right.

"I DON'T FEEL YOUR PAIN" IS THE NEW BIDEN MESSAGE And this column by our pal Stephen Moore is outstanding and you should read it.

HOW DID FLORIDA HANDLE THE PROTESTS THAT CRIPPLED NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA YESTERDAY? Just watch.

But this was NYC yesterday. Click on the first tweet to open the whole thread, it's horrible and shocking how much these people hate the country that allows them to protest for violent revolution like this. Try this in Iran, see what happens.

TWO MINUTE DRILL!

BON JOVI DOESN'T WANT TO BE FAT ELVIS And I get what he means here. He had to have vocal cord surgery in 2022 and is uncertain if his voice can stand up to the rigors of live shows (boy do I know how that feels) and he doesn't want to tour if he's not in tip top condition, which is where the Fat Elvis reference came from. I hear you, Bon Jovi, I hear you.

WE HAD A CONVERSATION WITH A WHALE Unfortunately no one knows what we said but it's a start. Scientists are trying to figure out how to talk to aliens and the closest they've got right now it whales, who have a very large range of communicative sounds. We don't know what they mean, but one whale responded to a playback of whale sounds by mimicking the sounds. Scientists say this is progress!

WILL YOU PAY TO TWEET? That is what's being proposed by Elon Musk to stop the onslaught of bots on X. Read it here.

it's already in effect in other countries where a dollar a year is the fee for new, unverified accounts.

JOHN BOBBITT LOSES MORE BODY PARTS You may remember him as the husband of crazy woman Lorena Bobbitt, who cut off his manhood in a fit of rage. Now he's lost all his toes due to an illness he developed from the drinking water at Camp leJeune in the 80s. I know there is an attorney who can help. This guy can't catch a break.

ANOTHER MAN IN ANOTHER PLANET FITNESS BATHROOM You know why women need safe spaces where men, even those who say they are women, should never be allowed? Because of guys like this. They ruin it for all the transgender women out there along with all the women who just want to change in peace. If you are still going to Planet Fitness you must be a raging progressive or a dude who doesn't have to worry about some creep asking you to put lotion on him and shower together.

THE RUST ARMORER GETS THE MAXIMUM Which is only 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter for killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of an Alec Baldwin led film. In her statement to the court, she still tries to blame others for her mistake.

WHY IT'S TIME TO BUY RATHER THAN CONTINUE RENTING This is shocking. A new study of average rental prices found that the average Denver rental has paid $109,000 in rent since 2019! Holy cow! And they will pay out even more if rents continue at the same pace. Read it here.
