Weds Blogcast: Nicole Who?; NFL's new kickoff

Just One Thing: Nicole Who?

Robert F Kennedy Jr reminded everybody yesterday just how unserious a candidate he really is. I’m sure that Nicole Shanahan is a nice person. Actually I’m not sure of that. I have no idea what she’s like. I just know that she’s a rich California attorney and investor and ex-wife of a co-founder of Google, who spent a few million bucks funding RFK’s Superbowl ad that was a take-off of his uncle, John F Kennedy’s 1960 presidential campaign ad, the use of which infuriated approximately every living member of the Kennedy clan. I’m guessing that she’s intelligent but that doesn’t mean she’s knowledgeable or wise, both of which I’d like to see in a vice-president, though I’m sure – and this time I really am – that she’s more of both of those things than our current VP. And, as the link below notes, she brings much needed financing to the campaign so I guess she's RFK's sugar-mama. Still, RFK, Nicole Who?

p.s. Part of the reason that RFK named his running mate this early is in order to get on the ballot in a bunch of states where having a running mate is required.

Tim Carney is a senior columnist with the Washington Examiner, a senior fellow at AEI, and a long-time fixture in political writing and thinking. His new book, "Family Unfriendly", is a hard look at the obvious failure of the most common modes of parenting today and what can be done to make raising kids simultaneously easier and better for everyone.

And it's somewhat rare that a 150-year-old law features prominently in a current Supreme Court case but if the plaintiffs succeed in establishing standing (which I do NOT think they will do), then the Comstock Act becomes more important, although it's not really the primary issue raised by the plaintiffs: How the Comstock Act could affect the Supreme Court abortion pill case (axios.com)

I really struggle with this. A teacher is fired for something she does outside of school that isn't illegal but maybe isn't a great example of being a role-model for kids. Namely doing rap music with all kinds of foul language and, well, I'd better not use any adjectives lest I get in trouble, but let's say promoting or glorifying a lifestyle that many parents might not approve of.

Teacher films music video with students after parents get her fired for rapping - Dexerto

I mean, this is the video she made WITH STUDENTS after getting fired. So, on the one hand, I sure wouldn't want this sort of thing around my kids but on the other hand I have no reason to believe she was bringing that kind of stuff (mindset, language, etc) into school. Note, the video has plenty of foul language but it's worth watching just as an insight into the culture, if you want to call it that, of some communities.

Meanwhile, getting fired and going viral for it could be the greatest gift that ever happened to her. “HONEY ECONOMICS” EP (@drippinhoney_music) • Instagram photos and videos

When our dog was literally lost by a dogsitter, she (the dog, not the dogsitter) was spotted a few times but we were never able to actually find and recover her. Luna, unlike the dog in this story, was a corgi and not big enough to survive against coyotes (much less a mountain lion), plus there was a massive snowstorm shortly after she was lost. We really loved that dog. I hope these people find their dog.

OK, I'm impressed

As crazy as it seems, I would not be surprised if this is real. (But also wouldn't be surprised if it isn't.) Still, it's amusing
