A Welcome Break

The Broncos now know they will host the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Playoffs this Saturday.
It was a welcome change to be able to find that out while watching games this weekend.
Granted, it was somewhat strange not to see the Broncos play. After all, they have won 11 straight games and have been playing as consistently well as any team in the NFL.
Then, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, they jumped into the top seed in the AFC and locked up a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The Broncos refuse to look ahead.
Head coach John Fox said this week he has not studied the playoff field.
“Nope, because then I wouldn’t be keeping my focus. I think what’s really important is that win this week against Kansas City. All our focus will be on that. Whatever that brings, we’ll react to. Right now, that’s where all the focus is.”
But Fox did tell 850 KOA that he has thought about how he might handle things should the Broncos secure a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

A Good Bye

Good bye.
Hello playoff run.
Yes, a week off in the first round of the playoffs is that important.
The Broncos don’t talk about it much. They don’t have to. In order to get a first round bye in the postseason, the Broncos need to keep winning. Therein lies the narrative.
“We’re just trying to take them one at a time. I know it’s cliché, but (this is) obviously a big game on the road,” Head Coach John Fox said. (They’re) a team that played in the championship game of our conference a year ago, a well-coached, talented team that plays really well at home. Their home record is pretty darn high. They’re 5-1 at their place this year. We want all our focus on the Baltimore Ravens.”
