Centennial, CO (Sept. 4, 2012) – Turning the anniversary of one of the United States’ most tragic days into a community positive, Big Bill’s NY Pizza will again host its “9/11 Day of Giving” fundraiser, with the goal of matching the record-setting 2011 event where $120,000 was raised to benefit families fighting cancer in Colorado. An annual event that began the weeks after the initial Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, Big Bill’s “9/11 Day of Giving” has raised more than $720,000 for charities the last 10 years.

“This is a special day we look forward to every year because of the incredible generosity of our customers and their giving spirit,” said Big Bill Ficke, owner of Big Bill’s NY Pizza. “When you think of 9/11, you think of what a devastating day that was and how many people’s lives were impacted in a negative way.  When we started the ‘Day of Giving,’ our idea was to create an opportunity to bring our community together and create a positive outcome. Thanks to the enthusiasm and support our customers, we’ve done it every year since and we’ve been able to exceed our expectations every year.”

The “Day of Giving” tradition at Big Bill’s NY Pizza is that for the whole day, there are no checks for any orders, guests are simply asked to make a donation in exchange for their food and drinks. The entire restaurant staff donates their salary, time and tips. Vendors donate supplies. Big Bill covers any extra hard costs. The bottom line is that 100 percent of all funds donated by guests on Sept. 11 go to charity.

Funds from the “Day of Giving” will be distributed through the nonprofit JoAnn B. Ficke Cancer Foundation that Big Bill and son Dan Ficke founded in 2009 in honor of their wife and mother who passed away in 2007.  Since 2009, the JoAnn B. Ficke Cancer Foundation has distributed more than $335,000 to organizations dedicated to cancer research and supporting cancer victims and their families in the Denver Metro area.  For more information on the JoAnn B.
