4/4/24 Blog: Help A Group of Women Soar Even Higher

THE MASTER'S APPRENTICE IS HELPING KIDS GET INTO CONSTRUCTION The Master's Apprentice, which recently received nearly $1 million from the Lowe's Foundation, is on today. That very generous grant to help disadvantaged young adults find a career in the construction trades is helping the program grow. The organization was founded by Coloradans Luis Villarreal and Scott Flores more than a decade ago. There is an acute skilled trades workforce crisis in the US, with the Associated Builders and Contractors estimating that 501,000 new skilled tradespeople will be needed on top of the normal pace of hiring to meet demand this year alone. Scott Flores joins me today at 12:30 to chat about it. Find out more by clicking here.

THE BLONDE BOMBERS ARE READY TO RACE! This year in honor of World Pilots’ Day (4/26), aviation-themed brewery FlyteCo Tower and Denver’s Blonde Bombers all-women flying team are joining forces to raise funds for Alaina Bravo with Blonde Bombers and FlyteCo Founder and pilot Eric Serani! In 2019, two pilots decided to get grounded and open FlyteCo Brewing, followed by their second location in a defunct airport tower. They support a TON of initiatives that work to create a better, more equitable aviation industry, including many scholarships to those who are low income, women, those moving from military life to commercial pilot life, and others that are underrepresented in the pilot industry to receive their pricey pilot license. Today I am joined by Alaina Bravo with Blonde Bombers and FlyteCo Founder and pilot Eric Serani to talk about the Tower Tours being offered in support of an across country air race for women. Find out more about that here.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON OPENING DAY TOMORROW First off, Ross and I will be right by Tom's Watch Bar from 9 to noon, so come see us. Second, the weather is going to be the best weather I think we've had since I've been here for Opening Day. Third, it's a great excuse to play hookie from work and just have a fun day. Fourth, as of last night there were still tickets available for the game. Read more here on what to expect.

DEMOCRATS ARE FULL BORE GOING FOR GUN CONTROL And SO MUCH of what they are doing is unconstitutional but they truly don't care. This editorial gathers up the lengthy list of ways Colorado is making harder to be a legal gun owner. Read below for how Attorney General Phil Weiser can't decide whether or not to keep guns out of the hands of criminals too. This is a mess.

DOES AG PHIL WEISER WANT CRIMINALS TO HAVE GUNS OR NOT? This column by George Brauchler lays out the wildly inconsistent positions demonstrated by Attorney General Phil Weiser. First he wants to put guns back into the hands of convicted felons, then he doesn't, then he wants to give money to the feds to enforce laws he argued against. It's very confusing, read it here.

MORE ON YESTERDAY'S DENVER CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON HOMELESS SPENDING I have to give 9News and Kyle Clark credit for continuing to ask for an accounting of the House1000 program. They were at the meeting I spoke to our Rob Dawson about on yesterday's show and compiled a list of questions that weren't given good answers here. They also took exception with the notion that dying inside from being murdered over overdosing on drugs isn't a negative outcome. We need a spreadsheet and we need it NOW.

IF YOU WANT TO BUY A HOUSE, DO IT NOW As there are more homes on the market than there has been in a while and people have finally accepted the new reality of interest rates and are not waiting anymore for them to drop. You can read the latest on the market here.

IS THIS REALLY A TIPPING POINT ON IMMIGRATION? This editorial says so but I have no confidence that Denver or Colorado will undo the bills that made us a sanctuary state and city. And yes, we both are that. This editorial supposes that since the Mayor's office is telling people to move along now the mood has shifted, but I think the Mayor and City Council think being seen as nice is more important than taking care of taxpayers.

GLOBAL WARMING SKIPPED US THIS YEAR As it took longer to hit 70 degrees this year than it has in 41 years.

WOLF KILLS ADORABLE AND CUDDLY BABY COW And probably did so by viciously attacking the poor little cow, causing it to suffer mightily before being partially eaten, maybe alive, by the vicious wolf that liberals voted back into Colorado. I hope they are happy now. It probably looked just like this little cow.

I TOO, AM TIRED OF THE RELENTLESS ANTI-ISRAEL PROPAGANDA This is a GREAT column by David Strom that engages in more than a bit of "whataboutism" but it's truly necessary to point out how lopsided the coverage of Israel has been. I'm probably going to share this today, but make note of the embedded tweet showing Hamas terrorists taking control of aid as soon as it enters Gaza. We are literally restocking supplies for terrorists. This as Sudan points out in the UN that over 200,000 children in Sudan are on the verge of starving to death and no one is bringing them food. Well that can't be blamed on Zionists, now can it? All Hamas has to do is release the hostages and this all stops. Where is the pressure on Hamas? Oh, right, they are too busy taking food aid to release hostages.

FACT CHECKING THE WARMIES What IF climate change went like this: the planet warms and THEN carbon dioxide goes up? That's what a climatologist interviewed on the Daily Signal podcast says in this interview. This is something that I've had other scientists say on my show, that rising CO2 is a lagging, not leading indicator of a warming planet. You should read it here but I'm going to try to get this guy on the show.

JUST HOW FAR LEFT HAVE THE DEMOCRATS GONE? This twitter thread about Bill Clinton's 1996 victory shows that the Democrat party has pretty much turned its back on EVERYTHING that Clinton stood for and was re elected on. It's truly fascinating.

BIDEN FINDS OUT GAS PRICES ARE HIGH When he went to replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserves that he depleted after gas prices spiked because his policies suck. Now he's decided oil is just too dang expensive to replace the oil he released so he could be popular. It didn't work, by the way.

SCIENTISTS FIND A GENE VARIATION LINKED TO OBESITY And they believe it only affects a small percentage of the population but it is significant because it doesn't cause childhood obesity, only adult obesity. Read more here.

WANT A SECOND HOME IN FLORIDA? Or a first home? Now's the time to buy as more houses are coming on the market and prices are dropping as some transplants find out it's miserably hot for much of the year and homeowners insurance is INSANELY expensive.

CALIFORNIA SAYS YOUR BOSS SHOULD LEAVE YOU ALONE Outside of business hours that is. I am not in a situation where my boss ever contacts me outside work hours for something stupid that can wait but apparently this is a huge issue in California. So much so that they are working on a bill called The Right to Disconnect that would prevent any boss from contacting workers outside business hours for anything else other than a scheduling issue or an emergency. Do we need this? How pervasive is this? These bosses who do this suck by the way.

NO MORE HAPPY ENDING MASSAGE PARLORS If a Republican backed bill passes the Colorado Legislature. The bill is designed to stop human trafficking at these shady joints where women are often trafficked and forced into sex work. It does so by requiring fingerprinting of all employees who work at such places, as well as a background check of anyone wanting to open one. This seems reasonable to me.

TWO MINUTE DRILL!

FORGET SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK, HOW ABOUT THE PARKING LOT? I LOVE this story so much. A troupe formed by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts is taking the show on the road and bringing Shakespeare to a parking lot near you. Read about it here.

KISS HAS SOLD ITS CATALOG For a deal expected to be worth $300 million dollars. It's more than just selling the catalog though as they've teamed up with an organization that is doing all kinds of cool stuff with avatars that can allow the band to "perform" without even being there. Read it here.

POWERBALL IS $1.23 BILLION FOR SATURDAY NIGHT And if you any of you win this I sure hope you'd consider a gift to the Mandy Connell Vacation Fund. If you take the lump sum payout it's about $595 million. I could live on that I think.

APPLE IS BUILDING A ROBOTIC TODDLER At least that's what I think when I see that they are building a robot that will follow you around your house all day. Nah, I'm good. I have a Saint Bernard for that. What I want is a robot to do the dishes, but apparently Apple says that is too hard. Whatever.

THING TO DO IN COLORADO THIS WEEKEND Even though the rain is going to move in on Saturday, of course. Find them here.

THE SOLAR ECLIPSE CONSPIRACY THEORY IS A THING NOW And I just can't even with this.
